On my Lark I'm reverting back to a split tail mainsheet having not really go on with centre bridle sheeting.
I'm happy with dyneema type fidding - can anyone suggest a good sheet as a starting point for making a split tail mainsheet, 7mm I think. Thanks |

Marlow are bringing out a new rope called Excel Gemini which has been specially designed for this purpose, it has "twin dyneema sk75 cores which can be tapered and separated" and "dyneema in the cover for good abrasion resistance", and is also 7mm, seems ideal for what you want, however not sure when its comercially available and no idea of price... hope this helps |

If you splice a piece of dyneema inside maffioli then attach the other pieces to it. This would be good.
Hope this helps |

marlow do exel racing which has a dynemma corre which you can splice into. but english braids do a rope with twin dynema cores especially for split tail mainsheets most chandlers will keep it i would reckon. |

I'd recomend the English Braids Duel core Dyneema. Its Nice stuff much better than the maffioli sheets. Really really easy to do the split tail yourself or any good chandler/ sail maker should be able to do it for you in about 5 mins.

Where do you normally lead the rope and put the blocks to keep your purchase?

On a Lark there isn't really the need to have any extra purchase. On boats like fireballs theres sometimes an extra purchase between the twart and half way along the boom but thats down to personal preference. |

Marlow Excel Gemini just turned up in my new Sailboats catalogue - £4.74 per metre. (It's not on the website yet) Looks the business.

I thinking about getting some of this Marlow Gemini dual
core. I've not done any splicing or whipping before so what would be the recommended method for tidying up the outer layer once it's been stripped back? I'm assuming some lock stitching to stop the outer moving and then some whipping to stop it fraying or would the outer need to be brought into the two cores some how? |

This thread is a few years old now, what is the latest thinking on this as I need a new split tail mainsheet?
These dual core ropes sound good but how easy is it to achieve a decent split that flows through the pulley at the end of the boom well?
