Are they flying or what?!  1200 miles or three days up after less than two week, I know there is a long way to go still, but you have to think that Fosset's record isn't going to stand for much longer!

But look at Ellen's return back up the atlantic. She was several days ahead at Cape Horn, she then lost that lead by the equator. The lead at the finish is likely to be less than 2 days.

Also Geronimo was well ahead of Cheyenne's record for some of the time in the early stages but they then ended up only just beating Jules Verne record and not the outright record.

So Orange 2's lead is pretty meaningless at this stage.

They are flying - almost back in the atlantic!!!! Then they need to get luckyto keep this lead.

Ignore the Jules Verne track as that is meaningless - there is only one record to chase and that is Steve Fossetts.

For those of us that can't remember what's the difference between the absolute and Jules Verne routes?

Steve Fossett refused to pay the entry fee for the Jules Verne, he then went on and set the absolute record.

Olivier de Kersauson then followed him in outside of Steve's time but inside the time of the previous JV record. Olivier then claimed the JV Trophy which was by this time worthless as the only record worth having is the absolute.

I can't help thinking the orange boys have had it almost too good, they are on to be the first boat inside 60 days, something has got to go wrong (i really hope not, but law of averages and all that)

Sorry Phil but Steve Fossett has already broken the 60 day record, here is the record as taken from Steve's website

"Round the World - 58d 9h 32m 45s - Feb-April 2004"

But the Orange boys are flying so perhaps a sub 55days might be possible.

If they do then I think that record will take a hell of a lot to beat and it will stand for a long time.

sorry, yeah, I did know that (bit of a blonde moment there)

Well something has happened, poor whale/orca thing.  Still they are flying, if they could keep up the speed they are doing now they will be inside 50 days.  Realisticly that is impossible (especially if they have to stop and put the rudder back together), but 55 is definately possible and that would be simply amazing!!

So what happens to a whale when it is hit up a giant multi doing 30 knots?

I wish the Orange team all the luck in the world - they are going to need it. It is great to see records being broken.

Maybe Ellen will have another go at the crewed record in the future. How fast could she get round in B&Q with a small crew of say 2 or 3?
