Hi All

I think my Vareo took a bang from another boat in the boat park so I have a small hole about the size of a 2 pence piece.(see attached)

What is the best way/product to fix this?

Gelcoat filler.

Either buy the platic padding gelcoat filler from your local chandeler and accept that the colour wont match, or buy a pot of colour matched gel-coat from LDC although you will probably find due to UV degradation that the colours aren't perfectly matched but at least somewhere close.

Going back to the plastic padding colour match. I have used black humbrol enamel paint mixed in to get the right shade successfully for many years.a lot cheaper than buying the official stuff. And yes a bit concerning about the gelcoat having that gap and I've seen that on quite a few boats in the past. Perhaps try to wedge the filler into the gap as much as possible to create the bond between the two

Its a void. very common, especially on tight corners of the mouldings, though this one is a whopper!

Get some gelcoat from RS and just build it back up, reshape with 600 then 1200 wet/dry and polish it back.

RS will be able to tell you what colour it is and supply an almost perfect match. Mist grey is always a good match, Platinum is more hit and miss.

Quality laminated boat there eh. Even a company making bus bumpers with chopped strand matt would have done a better job.

You will use one hell of a lot of gelcoat filling that void! Get rid of all the unbonded gelcoat and then fill the bulk of the remaining depression with filled (microfibres) epoxy. Make the surface good with gelcoat and finish, as Chris says above, with diminishing grades of wet & dry and then polish.

I think I would send a photo to RS and ask "Should I be concerned about this?" and see what happens.
