Well forumites, the Grafham GP may look like its only for the fearless, brave and Fireball-ists, judging by the forecast, but it's not your last chance of the winter to do an open multi-class event.

As usual the Frensham Frenzy (and it usually is) takes place on the Sunday after the Dinghy Show (8th March). 2 Pursuit races, lovely prizes thanks to our friends at Guildford Marine and the famous free Frensham tea afterwards.

More details here

Be good to see some forumites joining us. I can't promise Nick Craig will be there for the woodbotherer to beat by a country-mile (ha-ha, that'll be the day) but the RTC racing is usually pretty good for all sections of the fleet. It's also great boat-handling practice to get you off to a flying start for the spring and summer.

The bad news is that I am currently scheduled to be OOD, but desperately wriggling to find someone else to stand in so that I can sail the 100. The woes of being sailing-sec...

Ahh, such a shame, dropping down the Alps on a plank that weekend... I would love to seen one of those mythical round the cans courses for hiking asymmetrics😉

And they wouldn't want me bringing my proper kit up there to give their boy the thrashing of his life.. LOL

Pitch up anytime, I'll sign you in to see the anything but mythical; at the time it felt like I sailed well on Saturday, results say I won by over 6 minutes on corrected time in an hour race. No runs, all make-it-in-one broad reaches against pretty reasonable competition, job done. Bit embarrassing really. Or am I a genius and the boat hopeless? You choose...

If you happen to get a course where the wind is just right that the kite acts like a big jib, then you are Quid's in. If you have to go off course too much to set the kite properly, then I'd say you'd need the genius status, or at least plenty better than the others racing.

Typically, we use 8 marks and have three beats. Much of the rest therefore has to be, almost by definition a run or broad reach. Add to that the fact that with the kite up I am far more likely to get planing (or at least heated up) than anyone else and we are at happy days.

Hence the 100 loves RTC whatever Jimbo says.

What is does not like, on handicap, is triangles and sausages where you sail 50% further on the runs and struggle to carry the kite on the reaches.

The downside is that its easy to get caught out and capsize which is not good for corrected time when no one else pi$$es it in.

Oh, and yes the Frensham Frenzy will be based on one of those RTC courses.

Grumph: Nick Craig sent me his entry for his D-One today, so here is your chance. I'll even lend you my Laser - no mackerel to distract you at our place

You must have read on here that the 100 is rubbish upwind, surely?

Lend me a Laser ffs. If fortune found me headed that way, it would be in the trusty EPS, I'd take my handicap thrashing like a man and look forward to your boy catching me, whereupon I'd gladly follow for a bit and watch like a hawk see if there's anything I could pick up from his style, unlikely given I understand he's a bit of a beanstalk.
But, I've just had a communication with a better offer dinghy wise so I'm not sure exactly what my movements are going to be post the dingy show, but thanks for your kind offer...

Graeme, you are always welcome but sadly I cannot keep a personal armada of choices of craft just in case, i can only offer what I've got...
