We appear to have more threads on this class than active boats sailing, but why the hell not, this is Dinghy Development... 3, or is 4 years of Icon talk and there's another manufacturer looming, so ripe for some good old fashioned forum speculation.

So who will it be?

Cast your votes here, all will become clear in a few weeks.....

Given the geographic references and mistreatment I was thinking USA and Rondar...

Rondar build the Blaze hulls I believe but they are only available through Cirrus Raceboats (aka Mike Lyons, our very ow Blaze 720). They do a good job by all accounts.

As for the new Icon builder I wouldn't like to comment but I believe the one we had at Hunts was a Devoti build and it was very well put together (like my D-Zero).

hey, it's free publicity for the Icon via a consumer magazine forum.... at least we're all still interested in it.
(Well some of us are anyway, the rest have been turned off by the PY moaning...)

Topper?

LOL Oh you mean Loday-White / White Formula... I'm not sure, I know they're doing the new Vortex for the CA.  That boat doesn't get much chitter-chatter here, but it's a very respectable project from a few key class association guys if this sort of thing is interesting to you:

If Hartley's can produce the Byte for £2,995, I wonder what they could do the Icon or a similar boat for?

IMO a boat like this is going to be primarily club raced and therefore needs to appeal to the budget of the average club sailor. I wonder if is possible to produce a similar boat with an ali mast, a dacron jib, a thwart and a retail price (inc. trolley and cover) of £4,995 - if it is I could see that trickling into clubs slowly. If the boat was de-tunned slightly to greatly reduce the price I think that would work out better in the long run.
