An added 35 years is what happened to me. With hindsight, what I used to get up to could only ever be a phase. But I still keep going to opens and having a hangover on Sundays, just without having been in the middle of so much chaos the night before

Sadly, it takes more days now than it did hours way back then to recover. And sadly, the missing younger generations on the water are not there to lead the craic ashore either.

Still looking forward to Fowey Regatta Week again tho. No sailing, just the piss-ups.

In recollection terms, not sure where to start, so many, some of which I can even remember. How about this golden rule; putting the Larks and 420 squadies together at HISC was a very very bad idea

But it's still worth it!

The lesson I learned a long time ago is that there are only 5 mornings in the year in which you want to wake up ready for a good days championship sailing, but there are 360 other nights in the year when you can go and get legless without stuffing up the sailing.

Sad to say, the 80's caught up with me in the 90's, and the consumtion at Nationals had to have a drastic reduction, but Firefly and Merlin Nats certainly were beer fueled. I was quite surprised, having gone from the Fireflies straight to the N12s one year how much less was drunk there.

I've not been to a Firefly Nats since 2009, but there didn't seem to have been a lessening of the party spirit since the 80's, just my role in it. These days by the 4th pint I'm falling asleep in the corner.

So which class has been barred from the most venues for bad behavior?

I know the Larks have earned a couple over the years (although one was the 420s fault, you are supposed to let fire extinguishers off at people, not throw the thing, miss and hit a plate glass window)

And which has drunk the most bars dry? Again, I know we managed that several times in the Larks

It seems to me that double hander classes are naughtier than single handers. Is that right or a function of moving from former in teens and twenties to mostly the latter nowadays?

In my late teens and twenties I enjoyed some fantastic sailing event parties ... these days I don't have the constitution to continue in the same manor ...

I am certain they youth of today are still doing the same ... or are they all just sitting in the corner looking at their mobiles?

I think that they've been persuaded that the only way to be good at sailing is to abstain and take it all too seriously.
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

What a shame it all happened years ago and there's nothing much going on now, the Olympics killed our class in the nineties half the fleet shuffling off to bed at 9 am after drinking Orange juice and they totally missed the ethos, which was, that unless you partied til you puked, got up, ate breakfast, threw up on the start line and still won the first race the next day, you weren't a proper 'man'.
