Not been on here for a while, I've defected to ybw.com but I'm still a lurker here! But this question is definitely one for the Y&Y crowd.

I've been rebuilding a rather ancient Flying Fifteen (yes, I know) for a while now and shock horror she does now have some varnish on here! Full story here http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?330889-Saved-from-the-bonfire-new-project!

I am slightly kicking myself for not replacing the bulkheads at the front of the cockpit. They've been done before with some quite naff wood, and where I've repaired them, it still looks a bit naff regardless of the varnish...although that said it would have been a lot of work to do it.

However, what I am planning to do it to apply some shaped white vinyl patches over the top of the dodgy wood as "course boards" to each side...it will kinda work as the compass bracket will bridge the two, and it's also white. But...to look professional it will need some neat vinyl lettering applying to cover the info needed, and then the scribbled course notes can be in chinagraph underneath it. I've seen all sorts of stuff scribbled over gelcoat in the past...so what do you write?

Obviously needs the good old "tack on +/tack on -, bearing to windward mark, course, perhaps laps. I've also seen some "good/av/bad" presumably talking about course to windward. Anyone think of anything else? Boat will be racing on ponds and salty stuff too.

Thanks!

room to write down compass headings throughout the day, so you can see any patterns.

If you're sailing in big fleets, the sail numbers that finish in front of and behind you.

Looks great, Souters are fantastic boats and getting rarer all the time, not only that they are quick !Roy Windebank took the original mould from one, which after several modifications is now the hull shape for Ovingtons modern boats.
I can't really see from the pics but if you can ram the mast at deck level the position for and aft of the mast makes a big difference with 15's.
There are also subtle settings with the jib cars around the course if you are looking for on the water stuff to write down.
Good luck with the project.  Clap

PS, Might want to edit your signature date

That project looks amazing. You've got some serious skills there. I'd love to get stuck into a project like that. Sadly I haven't got the space in this current house.
