Voting has kicked off for the National Championship Venue of the Year

Already WPNSA and Rutland are slugging it out at the top,  with strong followings for Grafham, Plymouth and Tenby

Just tried.

But i only want to vote for 1, not 5, but it won't let me

How many people have done 5 nationals in 2013??

Surely if you want to get to a proper appraisal of a Venue, you should get people who went there to appraise it across things like race management, facilities, socials, friendliness of the locals, value for money, locality, beer, food, facilities for non-sailors et al, then combine the relative results.

Having us pick 5 random venues from a list is just nonsensical.

As a sponsorship, brand association attempt, it sends the signal to me of "we don't do things properly, in fact we are cr&p."

Sorry, but there it it. Please start again and do it properly as the outcome could be interesting

Agreed - and no Pwllheli which would be my top vote and surely should feature.  Spulling too challenging, or a 'closed shop'?

We did consider allowing only one venue to be selected,  but with 41 venues and average attendance of 35 boats (and the majority of Nationals are well below the average attendance),  like the dinghy market,  the National Championships arena is very fragmented,  we felt better to allow people to select and rate their five favourite venues (doesn't mean you have had to sail there this year)

We did also consider adding more specific questions on things like race management,  facilities,  local attractions etc and do actually ask these things in exit surveys for some events we are involved in,  but again discounted that one due to the fragmentation of the championship scene.

Pwllheli now added,  well spotted,  any others venues who have hosted a 2013 National Championships ?

Second that.

I would like to vote for just one venue please, I don't think I've even sailed at 5 National Champs venues.
Needs to sail more...

Well, I put in my 2 from this year (Hunts, then Northampton  - very close, but Hunts just had a bit more of a "family" feel to it - more like being welcomed to a friend's house) and then filled in some old favorite Firefly haunts from years gone by.

Agree, doesn't really work, though - by all means have a possible 5, but why the need to do them all?

Thanks Rupert!  I also voted for Hunts, then spread my votes across my favourite clubs.  It is a very odd system though.
the same, but different...

Presumably designed to make Sailracer look important?
