Following on from some of the other topics, which clubs offer good class racing fleets?

Define good class racing. Do you mean in terms of numbers, in terms of quality or in terms of friendlyness?
We have a growing Solo fleet at Hunts and have attracted a lot of Solo helms from other club to join us for our winter series racing. Some of these are names that are high flyers in the Solo fleet. In terms of the Laser we have around 25+ helms that compete over a series, sadly most of us are rarely there on the same weekends. When we are you get some great racing.

Oxymoron.
There is no such thing as good class racing. |

In the other threads people are saying they need class racing for a class to take off. Imho a weekend/week national is a one off and ignoring travelling series the humble club sailer has, taking hunts as an example of a big fleet on average 5 lasers or 3 solos to race against.(hunts autumn series) Not my idea of big to be honest.
(Ps only using hunts as an example as it was a response to my op. Im sure it is a great club and everyone has fun. Which is kind of my point despite them mostly doing py racing) |

There are far more boats that turn up for the odd race. We are looking at ways to try and encourage more people to run out at the same time. This may lead to weekend where very few people sail but it MAY galvanise some of the occasional people to turn out more often. We have seen a swell in numbers, especially in the Solo fleet and have at least 7 boats that I know of joining us purely for winter racing so 12 Solos on the start line potentially (which is a good fleet for a small inland club). We did get a couple of Laser races with participants up in to double figures, we need to try and encourage them to race more often but, like me, people have a lot of other commitments outside of sailing such as work and family.

Plus at our recent Laser open we supplied 11 of 16 boats on the start line. This was with a large part of the youth contingent away at a qualifier.
The fleet is strong, it is just a case of getting people there. Usually there is close racing all through the fleet too. Races have been won and lost by less than a boat length regularly. If you define this as good fleet racing then the number of competitors can be a little lower. I would rather be in a small quality fleet than a lerge fleet where I was racing on my own all the time.
