I know not dinghy development but there seems little interest anywhere in the AC that I am noticing.
Of course it is super exotic but then so is F1 and MotoGP and I watch those and I don't even race cars or bikes.

It's a lawyer driven cluster**** that's making exciting boats look boring and is broadcast awkwardly

The AC doesn't seem to have anything much to do with sport anymore, feels more like a billionaires pi##ing contest to me.

That is about it. Spoilt by guys with huge egos. The completion is out of reach of all but a few so dosnt represent sporting endeavour anymore it is a space race technology event.

Probably goes to show that people are more interested in genuine competition than boats going fast. Changing the event to AC45s might improve it, 12 boats regularly racing would make spectating more interesting, tho of course there is always the danger that with the speeds that are possible it would be all too easy to get massive separation destroying the competition image. Personally the best spectator interest would come from well filmed 12 metres racing in close proximity to each other.
Remember the Finns were easily the best televised racing spectacle at Weymouth 2012 |

The America's cup has never been about the viewer and this is clear from the protocol. If the winner sets the rules then there is a huge driver to win. Imagine if Red Bull could set next years rules then they would slant them in there favour to furhter ensure domination albeit they can do this with clever engineers at present.
If I had invested a huge some of money then I would too sway the competition to protect my investment. A competition with 12 teams in AC45 would mean it is less likely that Oracle can win and therefore not palletable until a team win the event and look to change the protocol so that there is a stable governing body managing the event to the benefit of all teams and no team can take control after winning the event. It is a very charitable winner that uts thi in place. Maybe ETNZ would consider this as it meets the interests of the commercial sponsors more than most.

I had a pang of interest when Team Origin were gearing up for the monohull challenge.... there was a genuine team spirit building and from a GBR perspective I could see a real homegrown supporters network developing. Principally because they had the best sailors on board, with the most raw talent- that's a great story.
But when then the pissing contest started, and when you put the financial baseline out of the reach of someone with the commercial acumen and business network of Sirs Keith Mills & Charles Dunstone, well frankly f*ck it, I pray this cycle will be over without further tragedy or injury. The racing is now less competitive on the water, the America's Cup 'brand' sullied and our sport far weaker as a whole. Thanks Larry.... stick to databases would you or better still, go race on your toy, y'know, actually sitting on it during a 30 knot foiling bearaway and prove how big your balls are....

I watch those big carbon high tech wing sail whatever machines and just can't relate it to what I do in my little plastic boats. It bears no resmeblance. It is not my sport.
