Hi

I currently race a Laser on inland water only and am now looking to purchase a sound RS300 also for racing.  I'm looking at Apollo Duck and other sites for the right boat - so far without success.

Is there any one on this forum who is perhaps considering selling their 300 please?

I'm looking for a B-rig becasue I've already been told that despite my light weight (11 stones and 5 pounds in sailing clothing) a B-rig will be OK and A-rigs do not win races.  I don't know how accurate this is.  If anyone would like to give me further advice on this issue as well then I'd be really grateful.  I really don't want to buy the wrong rig.

Thanks!

Good luck, Check the other 300 wanted thread, there were a couple posted for sale on there. I've just managed to get one but it took a while! It's a bit of a waiting game.

In regards to your weight I've found that (being about 12 stone 2 in sailing clothing) and I've found that you can depower the boat pretty well. Even so in about 18 knots I'm flat hiked upwind with Max depower and dumping the main!

There cracking boats, hope you find one soon

I've checked out the other thread - very useful, thanks.

Sounds like you've got the hang of your own new 300 pretty quickly!

Ummmm, I wouldn't say so, It's a big change from  a laser I'll tell you. I'm still at the diving around all over the place keeping it upright stage at times.

So rewarding to sail though!

Good luck

No it was gusting 18 at the weekend and I was totally overpowered trying to go up wind. In eight knots It's pretty powered up! It's a laugh either way  Big smile

Bryn,

If its 18 knots and your 12stone I would expect you to have max kicker and max downhaul.  At 11stone I would be maxed out and easing the main in gusts.  The other thing is to try and keep the boom over the back corner so you don't pinch too much.  Going low and fast works well and is much more fun (and effort).

Thanks for the advice! I raced today and got 8th out of 21 boats, so I'm quite happy with that! (Only my 4th time out) I had the kicker+ downhaul fairly full on today even, in the 14 knot moments it's quite interesting to think how much I change it now compared to how little I did in say a laser upwind.
