Personally I would avoid the Magno. If you want a plastic boat an RS Feva would be a better option. I would recommend a Lark (but then I sail one) if you want to try one and can get to Bristol for a few hours on a Sunday in December (hopefully when the waters back) let me know. Laser 2000 is also a good choice especially if you start to talk about 3 in a boat. Worth looking at what fleets are at sailing club near you and what price you want to pay. I think the main sailing club at Calshot sails Cats so that might not work out so well for you. Weston is on the other side if I recall, but to get there will mean a longish drive (probably faster to sail across).
Think about sheet loads for your son, especially if he's small |

But is it realistic to try and get 4 people in a Feva? I really don't think it would be a good plan. |

4 in a Magno wouldn't work, either, I don't think.

From all the previous posts I guess I am leaning more towards a L2000 as the choice perhaps to to go for. The Laser web sit suggests that it is capable of carrying 3+ people - what are peoples experience of this?
Going back to the original outlined situation - I envisage that most of the time it will just be just the two of us, with occassional trips with the wife and younger daughter (6).

I think an L2000 would suit you well for what you want sailing wise, but I'd still be tempted to check out clubs in the area first, just to see who sails what.
The L2000 is spacious and the plate in the back says it will carry 240kg, so no problems there. Just check that you can manoeuvre it on shore. |

the same, but different...
