I'd think a Topper was really too small to be comfortable for an adult. Another option might be something like a Feva. Not too big and heavy, pretty stable, sailable on your own but it would leave the option of taking a child or even a another adult out for odd sail. The kite is there if you want it, but if you don't want to race no need to use it. Many of the advantages of a Mirror, but updated. No oars though, which is a shame!

Mrs Webmuppet is slightly shorter and lighter than 'Notbrave' and she loves her Topper, it's light to move about, easy to rig and can be reefed down it the wind's a bit too exciting. Also worth considering might be the RS Q'ba or a Laser Pico ?

Cheers,

Nigel

Wow - have been away for a few days and come back to find so much help! Thanks all of you for taking the time to reply.
Had been wondering about a Mirror, but need to look more carefully at the rigging. I had been put off by them mainly beeing wooden, but a good point about buying one that doesn't need work for a while.
Had assumed a Topper was a child's boat in my ignorance.
Didn't know about Lightnings; looks a good option
Someone else mentioned a Splash and there are a few at my club.
Have learnt in a Pico. Just end up with bruised knees!
And I'll look at these other suggestions.
Thanks again
