I’m looking to get a dinghy for my two girls who just learned to sail and are now really getting into it and a little competitive.
One is abut 25-3kg, and a natural, the second is just over 50kg, still growing (tall) and not quite so natural. Boat need s to be something either of them can sail/race single handed or together. Reasonably hardwearing as they are both kids and will be sailing in Peterhead harbour, despite this neither of them seem to mind turning their toppers over so tippy is not a problem. Lastly just to throw a spanner in the works I would like to crew if either one of them can’t make it and I weigh in at 90kg. Hope someone can give me a few ideas, cost is obviously a consideration, but for the rights boat I expect they can stretch their pocket money. |

The Feva is to be a nice little boat and would be a reasonable fit for many of your requirements.
You're not going to get a perfect match for everything... |

A Topaz Tres.
-Plastic (Indestructible, you can sail them straight into the side of a Jetty and they will just bounce off) -Fixed Mast. (They can easily rig the boat on their own) -Trapeze. (At 25Kg I don't think she'll be particularly beneficial whilst hiking, so a trapeze would be handy) -Choice of two different Mainsails. (If they find the Mylar one too difficult, there is a Dacron one too) -Spinnaker. -They can grow into it. (I'm 14 and I can sail a Tres fine with my mate who is also 14. We're both pretty tall, and my mate is about 9 stone) -When it's windy, you can sail it too. The Topaz Tres has toe-straps for the crew too, so if it's not windy enough to trapeze the crew doesn't become redundant. If you want something a bit less fancy, try a Topaz Race X. Just like the Tres, just a smaller (Non fixed) rig, race sail and smaller spinnaker. |

Thank you for all the ideas. I will get the kids to tray as many of these as possible this season so we can try and find the best to purchase over the winter.
