Fitting Andersen bailers

    ... never fitted one of these.
They come with a rubber gasket that goes between the bailer & the floor of the boat.
Do I need to put this in with silicon or just put it in dry & rely on the gasket?
Edit: There are 2 gaskets; think & thin ... which do I use or both?

	If I remember correctly the thickness of the gasket you choose depends on the hull skin thickness. I always silicon sealed as well although I don't think it is strictly necessary. Cheers Ian

	We always used to fit them with silicone as well as the rubber gasket, just to be sure. Choose the gasket thickness depending on the depth of the laminate of the floor. The bailer should obviously be flush with the outside of the hull, so with a thick laminate you want the thin gasket and thin laminate you want the thick one to prevent the bailer from protruding too far. There are obviously different types as some have the main plate on the external side of the hull, and others have the plate on the inside and just have countersunk holes through the hull skin. Same rules apply though really.

	Cut the hole in the boat first thing. Super glue a couple of lolly sticks across the hole on the bottom of the boat, this keeps the bailer flush. Key up the floor of the boat and the bailer where they will meet. Now trust me on this, get a high modulus pu sealant, like a sikaflex, and litterally just glue the bailer in. Use lots of masking tape because it is a bitch to clean etc. No need to bolt the bailer in. Neat job, flush bailers and minimal finishing on the bottom of the boat.
