Hello all. I'm looking for some advice. I'm looking for a dinghy that I can sail with my boys and teach them good boat technique. The eldest is 6 (large 6) and youngest is 5. I will helm until they get used to it, but just really looking at what would be good for them. I'd also like to be able to sail the boat on my own in lighter conditions when they don't want to come out. I've been looking at Miracles and GP14's is this along the right sort of lines. not old enough for a wayfarer and need something more exciting than a mirror. Thoughts please. Just spotted the age of the original post. Have you bought a boat? If not I'd recommend a Laser 2000. My two started "crewing" aged 5 and now my eldest aged 11 helms for me (and we go faster!). Laser 2000 can easily be helmed short handed just furl the jib and leave the gennaker in the sock. Plenty of 2000 around for sensible prices now check the CA webpage Kevin |

What classes are at your club? Your kids will probably enjoy it more in a class racing rather than explaining the concepts of yardsticks to them.

you won't be using a kite then? As it was pretty exciting in our Mirror this
weekend, three sail reaching. To be honest if you have a good jnr section at your club it would be better to get them a Optimist to sail and a boat you want to sail that they can come with you on. So an idea of your size, weight and skill level would help with suggestions. |

Thanks all for your comments.
I've actually gone for a GP14 that was on at a good price. Ticks the boxes and means I can take a couple of kids when conditions are right, we can also take her cruising in the summer on the broads |
