hi guys, pls forgive me-i am very new to this, ie- i bought a blue peter dinghy, made by ian proctor of stoke gabriel. its blue, about 8ft by 4ft and has poles (no sails) and has a rudder. no oars (but unsure if i even need them) it has a little trailer (minus wheels) but could not turn it down at the price.i would love to use it but need a few basics before i do. i need some sails etc and a book you could recommend on my boat would be great. sorry if this seems all basic, but thats me. cheers guys

No Problems,

If i remember rightly the blue peter has the same rig type as the topper, although i have a feeling the sail may be slightly smaller, it may be worth getting an old topper sail seing how far off it is from fitting, The sail could be easily and cheaply cut doen by your local sail maker.  I doubt vey very much if there has been a book written about how to sail a blue peter dingy so i would buy a book that is aimed at your current exerience level.

Have you joined a sailing club yet? if not i would, as most clubs have some kind of training available now as well as the usual local experts to help you rig your new boat.

Good luck with it.

Welcome to the world of sailing.

The Blue Peter is a good boat to start sailing. Get out once you have the sail and enjoy.

yes sails are generally specific.  you could try and get one made, but i suspect this could be fairly expensive, i would try a topper sail first, if it doesnt fit get it modified.  you should be able to find a second hand one on ebay fairly easily.

This may help a little.

And a sail along these lines (check measurements before bidding,  it would need cutting down in size).

Looks like the sail was made by Hydes, so could be worth asking them if they have any left they want to sell off cheap?
