If its been sailed by lightweights and its got the wings, then check the pins on the wings. Where they go into the hull they tended to crack and break. If your heavy and dont need the wings, then not really an issue.
As everyone has said they arn't bad boats just outdated now in terms of performance assymetric. From a helms point of view they are very good boats although the ridges in the deck tend to chew your shins up and the non-slip eats your knees, but very competent boat. Look out for sails, the original sobstad jibs tend to de-laminate pretty quickly, the new Hydes are lovely sails. Rudder stocks are a bit of a pain due to the lift the tiller then push it then lock it down system. The corner of the ratchet on the stock tended to round off and if you didnt have a pin through it, the rudder would kick up while your sailing. As with any boat, have a test sail and if your unsure walk away and re-consider. Paul |
