I remember hearing something about a block of wood and a hammer!

i think a new set costs somewhere around 200 squid from ldc. All i did was found a guy who was too big for his, swapped my narrows with his wides, so we both had the right size.

There are 4 U-bolts that hold the wing down to the hull which need to be taken off. There are also 2 screws that go through the wings near the hull to hold them in; take these out and they should come off.

They can be tricky to get off, so some gentle persuasion thorough the medium off a hammer (and a block of wood so you dont dent the wings) will probably be neccesary. If then they are still not coming off, get a bigger hammer!

right so if i can get a wide racked boat but otherwise swooping racks is a possibility. thank you very much.

apart from the old masts being fond of being in more than 1 piece is there anything else that has changed from the first few boats? foils, sails control lines wise?

thanks again.

and i just though of something else when i posted that, how wide are the actual hulls, excluding the racks? this is a concern for me because i might need to get it on the top of a double stacker and if i can have the hull on the trolley with the racks hanging over the side and the whole lot upside down it would be the easiest thing i think (don't ask). so what i need to know is, how wide is the hull without racks, and how big a gap is there between the hull and the wide wings?

having looked around a bit, i come back to you with another question:

whats all this about continuos kikers? do some boats only have the kiker adjustable from inside the boat? how difficult is this to retro fit?

yup,  as TT says, would take 2 mins and is easy as P to rig up. Although, mine goes round the back instead of the front.

I think there was a new foil mould or something made, but to be honest it will make very little if any difference. The key to sailing the boat is keeping it upright.

Measured up 2 sails the opther day, my almost brand new one, and what we think is the original sail from 715 so pretty old. Remarkably, both the sails were pretty much identical sizes, no obvious stretching or shrinkage, so you wont be that disadvantaged by an older sail either.

I wouldnt worry really, as long as the boat looks in reasonable condition it should be quick enough to be competitive. The key to doing well is keeping the thing upright.

And dont worry if its got a hatch on the back of the bulkhead. It means the kicker U-bolt has been replaced at some time. The non continuos kickers are led out to each wing, but you soon find yourself pulling the kicker in on one side, and easing it on the other as you sail around the course. After a lap or two you'll find that one side is fully out and you'll need to ease it. The remedy is to use a longer bit of dyneema and run all the way around the boat and splice the ends. The elastic take up for the slack can either be on each wing with the kicker return passing along the fwd wing bars or just run it across the back of the boat with a turning block at the bottom of the rudder turret to keep it in the boat, the elastic then needs to pull the slack fwd along the inside of the wings.
Dimples on the foredeck are common, but only cosmetic. A result of not realising when they designed it that the best way downwind in the light stuff is to sit on the foredeck with the mast between your legs!
Other than that just check the sails and the foils.
