Any one know of this boat? its single handed trapeze....I've been offered one in an exchange deal for my old Merlin, but can't find any details.
Would it bring back memories of the RS800? how many are out there and does it have a handicap to race with...
Thanks

Thanks Norbert...That's the one and only reference and its the one who wants to swap with the Merlin, so guess I may have to go and take a look. Sounds interesting, but I'm surprised I can't find any reference or photos.

The delta 4 was an attempt at an unstayed rig with a trapeze, from maybe 15 years ago (bit hazy on that bit...) it was round bottomed, about 13 feet long, I think, and had a mast that was tree trunk like at the bottom and sharply tapered. How they sailed I have no clue, so whether they were a failure due to what they were like to sail or just "because", I don't know. It won't bring back 800 memories, I shouldn't think. You'd do much better sailing a contender, and Merlins appear to be selling well at the moment, so unless it is in a very sad state it will be worth more than even a tidy Delta 4. Having said that, you might get the ride of your life - just don't expect to sell it on too quick, or make a profit! I doubt the Delta 4 will get more than £500.

Excellent thanks Chris,
It is a Laser.....Which are not my favourite unless there are a fleet of 30+ and 30knots of breeze. OK I'll go and try a trapeze on my old Laser and see how it sails!

Looks like a fully battend Contender with a dagger board to me.

Also gunwalls look fairly straight to aid trapezing unlike the Laser's which are curved and make it harder to trapez.

Be carefull trapezing off a Laser mast you will not be the first to try............

Can you name another singlehanded trapeze boat that would really suit a sub-10 stone sailor?

A Boss sailor would have been well overweight for a 4m boat, I'd have thought, but if the design allowed a flyweight singlehanded sailor to keep up with porkers in full rig Lasers it would fill a useful niche I'd have thought.

I seem to recall the hull had rather more volume than a Laser - while it looks like one in the pic in real lifeit did look rather different, apart from the superficial shape - ie pointed at front, cockpit well and rolled deck edges. I think £800 would be much better spent on a Contender or even a Laser, dare I say it...

How about a Unicorn? Medway, they are great fun..if you have the storage space.

Well you've all convinced me, I don't think I'll be swapping my old Merlin for this, but I may think about a contender they look like fun. Failing that maybe an old 14 just for blasting and a few nandicap races.
