Fevas are dreadful boats.  The front of the cockpit is far too small for the crew, but it is not ballasted correctly for singlehanded sailing.  The jib never goes round the mast, the kicker doesn't ever release, the jib dies about 60 degrees from the wind, the mast is filled with lead and so it generally turtles...I could go on...

Depends what you want to do with the boat. If you want a boat that can be sailed seriously and raced then the Laser is a good idea, if you're just looking to have fun and muck around then the Feva is the better choice. There isn't really any racing for a person of your age or weight for the Feva because it is essentially a youth class. Lasers tend to get a massive turn out at class events and open meetings so you will always have someone else to test yourself against, and there are far more people similar to you that sail Lasers.

Five years on from when I made my original comments, I have sailed the Feva a few more times since. I stand by my original comments and those of the others on here, it does have its faults, rudder, main halyard, kicker, tendancy to invert, cockpit layout. I would take a Topaz Race X every time given the choice, a tiny bit slower (except for when it blows) much simpler, better when capsized and very difficult to break. Its aimed at a slightly different market though.

I'll agree with the cleat system, it is a bit of a pain at the top of the mast, but as Riki - RS said, it can't go anywhere else.

When I sailed it back from the "Day Trip" the wind was blowing a 5 and with the kite up it was great fun to sail.

RS make good boats, the Feva is aimed at the Juniors but is great for anyone to sail.

2006 i wrote the above, 5 years on i now own one and standby the above, great boats
