My RYA membership just came up for renewal. The only reason I'm a member is because it is a requirement for having a dinghy instructors qualification. I don't plan on teaching in the coming year so can I just re-join the year after?

£37 is pretty steep since I don't really get anything else out of it. Quite a price hike from the £28 last year too.

you only need to be a member to become an instructor but personally i think the rya do a great job at organising legal protection for instructors so its worth keeping up memebership

£37 to the RYA who provide all the legal guys to argue on behalf of free rights on the water and preventing uneccessary legislation - it's  a bargain. Yes, you'd still get the gain if you didn't join, but does this not just feel like stealing??

Its very suprising that they dont have any kind of student membership once you are over 21.

And I am very surprised that students, who wouldn't think twice about spending £37 in the night club on a Saturday evening, expect that the world should give them everything at a discount!

When you look at how heavily legislated sailors are elswhere in the world (together with the associated costs) and know that pretty much, but for the RYA, the UK would have been exactly the same, membership of the RYA is an absolute bargain.....
Far too old to still be doing this......

That’s a very broad sweeping generalisation.

But also a very valid one!
