Anyone know what has happened at Laser? Seems that after 18 months they haven't managed to get the Vago class association going and don't seem interested in doing it despite the promises. Last I heard was a newsletter in April promising a class association website by the end of May. Sumo - you seem to be a vocal vago owner. How are you getting on - my Vago seems to be falling apart on me. There seems to be a bit of a problem with centreboards snapping from what I've seen. |

Have you thought about getting the ball rolling yourself and show Laser how it's done? A good place to start would be to speak to other associations and get a few joint events going. Perhaps with the Laser 2000 or 3000? Yellowhammer - how about it? As for the boats falling apart, we insure a good number of Vagos and have not encountered any major problems - yet! Jon

Hi Vago Owner Jon from NMI PM'd me (thanks Jon) ... take a look at the following thread: http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1 373&KW=vago Last I heard, Laser had a non-sailing marketeer 'running' the Vago CA, okay for organising a few events to get things going (Laser's intent), but there's much more than that to running an active class as you're starting to discover (I've been well tutored by the Laser 2000 mob) Anyway, having the class run by the builder seems a bit incestuous to me I've said it before and I'll say it again, we (the 3000 class) would be very happy to team up with the new breed of similar single trapeze asymmetrics (Vago, RS500) and combine resources and share events ... the Buzz and ISO CAs work very closely together and we're aiming to team up with them for a couple of events next year There has to be a case for a joint association here somewhere ... we could possibly adapt our website www.3000class.org.uk with an area in the forum for each partner class ... it's also good for each class to have its own identity to some extent We'd want to see Vago and RS500 owners making a contribution to the running to keep their seat ... we now have 6 committee members (which is the RYA recommended minimum for an independent CA) but for the previous few years I was the (very active) 3000 Rep on the Laser 2000 CA, with a couple of other enthusiastic 3000 owners chipping in from the sidelines Don't underestimate the commitment it takes from a few dedicated members to be a successful class association! PM me if you'd like to discuss by telephone ... Rob Leigh, 3000 Class Secretary |
