i have a 2 or 3 year old rs feva we have only had it since last easter and a couple of weekends ago we broke the starboard helm toestraps where they join to the crew toestraps. i got them stitched up with old bouncy aid and wipping twine then the other set broke in a similar place. does anyone have an idea what's causing this and what would you say the life expectancy of toestraps should be?

If your toestraps are "too lose" for you they may twist over on themselves, so they tear themselves only. When you tack you need to tack toestrap to toestrap. There really is no need for webbing toestrap to "wear out".

i think they probably twisted themselves then tore. especialy the 1st 1 that went because i was climbing over onto the daggerboard and it went bang sploosh. the second one went when i was hiking out normally on a beat so i cant see how that would have twisted itself out. it went bang sploosh but this time i the boat sailed off for a while befor my crew realized that we'd slowed down because i was holding onto the mainsheet.

Did that in an Enterprise open a few years back. I was giving the helm verbal because the main was not sheeted in only to turn round and see him bobbing gently in the lake about 30 yards back! Paul |
