Bala Sailing club already do this. They have been running the event for the last 2 years. I think Bala thought of this before Andy Rice. 

Format works well and you can pick what time in the day you want to run your flying lap. You can also run more that one boat, so father can run his boat and then do another lap with his son in another boat. 

Write up for one of the events is here!! As will all these types of events it is just a case of getting the word out to interested sailors.

Isn't that a one lap time trial, at whatever time you choose during the day, in any boat you want? More like a qualifying lap in F1

Andy Rice's proposal is you do one longer lap, at a time of your choosing, inter-spaced between normal laps as part of a fleet race. More like pit-stops in F1.
