As most of you know I sold my RS300 nearly 2 years ago and have not sailed dinghies since.  This is because I work on a copper mine in Zambia and get four 3 week holidays a year.  Sob story yes I know!

I miss the freedom of being on the water and racing at all levels.  I have been able to do a couple of yacht holidays with friends and have bought myself an RC sailing yacht but neither seems to quite give me the sailing fix I got from my 300.

Short of buying another 300 (which I will feel guilty about because it will just sit in the garage), does anyone have any great ideas to get sailing again.  Buying a boat to use 3 times a year seems crazy.  I have looked at crewing positions but who wants a helm/ crew for just a few weeks at a time.  Sailing in Zambia is unfortunately out as the lakes are filled with crocs and although I would of course win a wrestling match with one, it would involve animal cruelty!

sailing holidays - a great choice of boats, nice locations, no stress about storing a boat.
the same, but different...

If I only had limited number of weeks in the year to see anyone out of the office I don't know I'd want to spend all of it on sailing holidays.

I don't think RS would want you to feel guilyt about having an RS300 in the garage that only comes out a few times a year - it is a mass production boat after all, and goodness knows there are anough others round the country that are sailed no more than that. But if it really worries you get a damn Laser. They are fun to play with in waves if you take it somewhere suitable and no-one ever need feel guilty about contributing one more to the tens of thousands of Lasers that are hardly ever sailed...

Charter an RS100 for a euro/world champs- Garda/Como.... One good weekend a year, in the sun, racing a nice boat on long windward leeward courses ... And alcohol.

Keep a club membership and just use your club boats? No overhead cost, but you aren't going to rack up any time to quench that thirst for sailing
