Still got to go on via centreboard, stand on it and lean back with righting line, then you've a gunwhale to scrabble over , not easy as boat doesn't heel towards you . Monos far easier in my experience.

It's just my limited cat sailing experience.  I know spreader bars are a pain when righting a dinghy.  Its just that I thought you don't have to climb up onto the centreboard on a cat - don't you just climb straight onto the hull that's in the water?

"and they tend to damage the trailing edge of a high performance centreboard"

Generally why i try and climb over the front of the board as it's thicker and more robust. Either that or push yourself under water then use the buoyancy of the life jacket to propel you up out of the water and straight onto the board without any need for climbing!

Why for cat sailors ??????

I admit we must be superior beings ( whoaa only joking) , but teleporting is beyond our abilities too !

And we have twice as many gunwhales and exspensive centreboards contrary to popular believe we do capsize ,

Prob missed something that made your comment relevant !!

for which I say Doh !!!! in anticipation of enlightenment .

Ps ever checked layup on foam sandwich cat , gelcoat thinner than a rizzla !

Note on Spreader Bars.

I'm sure there are some exceptions but generally speaking spreader bars are a pain (literally) on dinghies.  They make getting up on the board and up over the gunwhale just a bit harder and they tend to damage the trailing edge of a high performance centreboard.  Without a spreader bar you can slightly rotate the body and stop the metal coming into contact with your precious boat.  I think spreader bars are designed for cat sailors.

the gill harness without the spreader bar, but with the quick release hook, is incredible, its soo ocomfortable the majority of the scottish 420 guys n gals use it as its soo good. it doesnt snag, yet is very adjustable and insanely comfortable!!!
