My wife (and crew) has declared that she wouldn't mind a Pico so she can learn to helm again. We both did our Level 1&2 together but our rapid ascent from Vago, through 4K to 800 has meant that she hasn't helmed properly since.

Personally I've always had a soft spot for the Pico but it's a bit small (My wife is 5'10'') and a bit limited so what else is out there? She's not keen on a Laser as she feels she'll be judged by the other Laser sailors and expected to race etc, so something small, stable and good for confidence building - oh and cheap. I've got new 800 sails to think of!

Depends if you want Plastic or GRP, the Topaz, Feva, Q'ba fill the plastic section, otherwise as said the Byte is cheap (with original sail) or you have the Comet

A europe is ok if you're a flexible 5'10" (I am 5'11") better in fact than a byte or a splash or anything along those lines because in light winds the cockpit is quite cramped (her indoors has a byte).  The streaker is the most comfortable for that height and is a lovely boat.  Otherwise yes the lightning is also a good choice.
the same, but different...
