laser 2's aren't THAT top heavy. As long as you hop on the daggerboard sharpish then they don't go under. I agree that the mast is a bit of a tank though! needs 2 people to get that up whereas my cherub mast only needs one.

it was the weight. you may not know but laser 2 alloy masts are heavy as hell! my mate i match race with sometimes has a fender on top of his just to delay it turning turtle when he capsizes. not stop just delay! there that heavy!

What is it you are trying to gain with the carbon mast? is is weight or bend charicteristics?

The eisiest option might be to get a broken RS 600 or 800 mast cut it down and re rig it but both would be much stiffer than the current LII one so the mainsial would not fit too well.

Building one from scratch is a bit high risk if you have not done much laminating before and could be quite a pricy mistake if it gets stuck on the mandrel.

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

i know this sounds weird but how much would a carbon fibre mast for a laser 2 be, im sailing it more now that i got rid of the 29er and want to get it kitted out. the club i sail at lets you get away woth anything as long as the sails are the right size!
