I'm looking for a Boss or L5k and can't seem to find any at the moment.  Does anyone have one of these dinghies for sale?

Have you had a look at that one?

Otherwise, I think it's just a case of checking the web every day and snapping up a boat when it comes up. They aren't very popular boats because better, more exciting but more expensive alternatives (Eg. 49er) have been brought out.

Actually there are newer boats but not necessarily 'better' or 'more exciting'.........come and join the 5000's we are very active (Nationals this weekend), Europeans and lots of other events and Class Association support. You will find that many top skiff sailors had long apprentiships in the 5k and there are still lots in the fleet.....contact us via the website laser5000.org to try out a boat and we may be able to point you in the right direction for buying one. You will get a good boat for £1000 - £2000 (tops).....they are fast boats (PY 845) and probably best value for money for this type of sailing....as for 'not popular'.....boats all over the UK and the Continent having a blast Clap

As for the Boss great boat but less support/events.

Really? :o I've never seen a L5k anywhere. Didn't realise they had so much support!

Back in the day the L5K were a very popular boat...over engineered though and heavy.

They have a loyal following though and most of those built are probably still sailing.

Can't help with the boat situation however I can say that the 5000 class association are really friendly and helpful.  RE the boat, it is surprisingly forgiving to sail but with very powerful sail plans.

I had three 5000s in my time sailing them 5241,5272,5311 all of them where great boats and the funny thing is two of them are now in poland sailing i remember seeing 5241 in lee on solents boat park three years ago so might be worth asking them is it still there.
Retired now after 35 seasons in a row and time for a rest.

Without considering the "virtues" of the craft in question a significant consideration is that many second hand ones will cost a hell of a lot of money in replacement string and gear to get in decent sailing order, even before you get onto sails... There are no doubt any number abandoned in dinghy parks round the country, and I wouldn't be suprised if the cost of maintenance is part of it...

Not sure 'engineered' is the right word for "slap on another layer of CSM".  Smile
