Hey Everyone,

I have been sailing for nearly 3 years now and I am looking to buy my own boat. I'm not sure whether I would like a single hander for racing on my own, or a boat that my brother can crew in with me. I have sailed a Topaz Uno for the whole time I have been on the water and I'm not too sure whether to stick to that class or move over to a Laser. I have wanted a Laser for a while now, but I am open to any suggestions of other dinghies I could sail in. I am roughly 60kg. I am thinking of a budget of about £1000 since it is my first boat.

Thanks

Emily

Please don't restrict yourself to dinghies, cats are fast, stable and just as challenging. Essex is home to lots of classes, Hurricane 5.9 is a lot of bang for your bucks.

If you want a singlehander I think the Byte CII or Europe would suit better than Lasers.

Emily, firstly where are you sailing?

As an Essex sailor with Topaz I suspect you are Brightlingsea based. If you are after a boat, best bet is to borrow a few to try and see what you like. If you were going to the Laser, ook for the 4.7 and radial combo so you can sail in any wind

a splash/flash is a great boat for a teenager.
have a look at the class assoc web site. if you like what you see, contact the class sec. and she will give you a lot of help and information.
