I did the same modification on my Morrison 8 (FRA 12 but ex GBR 1420) .

There is actually no comparison. While before I was often heading to depower, now my crew keep the boat dead flat. I steer with the jib sheet in hands which helps me stabilize and allow me to depower on huge gusts.

I take the main when tacking, bearing away and downwind.

Next modification will be a self tacking jib which can be a nightmare in strong winds (need to cross faster) but really usefull in normal conditions as it helps helm to be faster for tacking and simplify gybing.

Well thats a trade secret!!
We are currently working on getting the best strengtht to weight ratio at the moment.
With the abuse a twin tiller 14 set up, we found a slightly more flexible tiller extension makes it not only lighter but, alot nicer to the gunhall.
When finalised they will be about 35% of the cost of a carbon one of the same length.

What do you use to mold the tillers on ? and how do you get the mold out ?
If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

The off the boom sheeting works really good! We started off by by getting used to helming with the sheet off the boom, and now have perfected the technique of:

crew takes main upwind,
to tack uses front hand to uncleat jib and grab trapeze handle,
then using rear hand hold out main which the helm grabs after unhooking,
both cross the boat,
crew straight onto wire whilst setting jib and takes the main leaving the helm free to go out onto the handle and hook on like with a self tacker!

After a bit of practice it can be done very quick, and where we sail on Llandegfedd reservoir, the crew being able to sheet on/off during gusts is very helpful as the helm only has to worry about the steering and the crew only has to worry about keepin the boat flat. very helpful in gusty conditions (especially havin 2 hands to sheet in with)

No way! That was the one I was looking at too. I went for ours since it was at Weston SC right near me and it was cheaper.

Mine was made 1992. Apparently the carbon mast on her cost some guy well over £1000 looking at the records. The adjustable uppers are cool but the newer ones don't have them since they have fancy active cst masts.

How is the off the boom sheeting working out for you without the self tacking jib? I always liked that about the 29er but not sure how it would work out helming from the wire. Might give it a try.

Yeh that is very similar to ours m_liddell, ours has got a carbon mast now due to the previous owners snapping theres and using the insurance to get one, otherwise they have a very similar layout! What year was yours made? - btw the drawn bits show the wings and where they were added, and the lower pic shows the prodder.

We have made quite a few changes from the previous owners (who took these pics) we have ditched the furler, set it too sheet off the boom, will soon fit the self tacker, and of course the kevlar tillers

Here are the pics taken at our tiny lake back at home over xmas, we did sail her there once for a laugh as you can see in teh last pic . Her home is Tudor SC on langstone harbour. The only changes have been the twin tillers, new rules RS800 mainsheet style mainsheet and windsurfing footstraps. I can't believe how well she sails for an older design, feels as good as any modern one designs.

Apparently she was quite well known in 14 circles and has/had a few sisters, only 'windchaser' that I know of. She is called windspirit and the name painted in cheesy letter down the side which we have since removed . The owners docs reveal 5 owners in her first 4 years so she has been abut a bit.

Here are the pics of a tiller, after one layer, it is at less than half as stiff as the final one!
