sounds like a similar problem to some older penultimate 14's, you need to sail the boat flat to reduce the weather helm, it will constantly give an upwards thrust, due to the nature of the hull, unless its sailed flat most of the time. It shouldn't need a T foil rudder to pin the back end down as its one of the wider designs. As with all moths its just going to take some getting used to...

Sounds like the right rudder for the boat, not saying it is the correct size!
The rudder has no effect on those old Magnums unless they are sailed  flat. So if you say it is not working, the boat is not flat.

Your rudder does not sound like the correct blade for a mag 6.

It wont have T foil but should be deeper than 2 feet.

I have recently updated my Moth to fit Hydros and have my old conventional foils including T foil rudder in dagger style stalk available if you interested.

Let me know if you are interested.

I had a Magnum 6 at one time and from what I remember, the rudder was similar to what you are describing.

You want to get to the Moth Yahoo forum and get a definitive answer, but if you mean two feet in the water it doesn't sound totally outrageous to me.

Hi folks

Recently acquired a magnum 6.  Finally got it on the water last night (proving the worth of drysuits in the process...) and had a great time.  However, blade on rudder is only 2 foot by 6" (not T-foil or anything, think 20 years back).  Is this normal for old moths?  Seems tiny and requires a fair solid shove to get the boat to respond in light winds.  Any thoughts?

Cheers

Rob
