Handicap situation is quite clear now:-

PY Number 1032 as published in the 2010 RYA PY Handicap List
Class recommended PN for Vandercraft-hulled boats: 1007
Local arrangements can also operate (eg. Wilsonian, Hythe).

And as for "...it's not really an advantage if everyone else stays on the beach, is it?"..... well, all I'll say is, I would far rather be in the company of a few in a decent breeze, than a crowd in a drifter. You're welcome to that.

Well, to be honest I think its a difficult boat to handicap.
Its very fast when windy but not any where near when its light.
Ive been racing it at bexhill a few times recently in some wind and even 985 seems rather generous but im sure in the light stuff its not too far off.

An advantage shared by the L2.....ecxept it's not really an advantage if everyone else stays on the beach, is it?

...Is there any agreement on the V3000 handicap yet?

Long story...... RYA says 1032 class recomends 1007.... at hythe I run on 985 for the next series.

Bexhill and Wilsonian reckon 985 as well...

We had a look at the V3000 a couple of years ago, I was impressed. One of the reasons for not getting one was the disagreement over the PY........Those "in the know" wouldn't commit themselves and were suitably vague in a "dum dee dum lets talk about the weather" sort of way, or so it seemed............It was obviously faster than the old L2 by a long way. I concluded that it would cause more grief than it was worth in club races.

The 3000s were flying at Wilsonian / Medway Dinghy regatta a couple of weeks back on the Sunday when the wind was up.
Vortexes shared a start with them and they were powering on with kite's up on fairly tight windy reaches that had me reaching for my spare underwear.
Not so keen on the purple ones TBH.

Don't try the 4000 single handed - you'll find it very
difficult to right when you capsise.

I'm in a similar situation to jonathon. I'm looking at the buzz, laser 3000 and 29er as possible boats to choose. I'm also considering the laser 4000, but i'm not sure how this compares to the others apart from being quicker
