2007 Worlds speeds were in the low teens in 15 knot winds. Anyone know any higher GPS speeds for the Tasar?

I seem to remember 15. 3 from somewhere. What I do know is that ours would keep up with a 300 in a real blow on flat water, so that must be about 15? However that would be on the front of a gust, when it dropped a bit the 300 would streak away. Still not bad for a hiking double hander.

When the weather improves we will be sorting our Tasar out and selling it.

I have found Tasers are damned hard to beat in the 300, especially when Tasers are sailed by a light crew. They seem to go like stink up wind when not sailed particularly flat and off wind I have to play it really high or go very low to get them. Just going straight for the mark and playing the gusts is as productive as giving up. But there again I am pretty crap!

I hear there may be a Tasar beater at the Dinghy Show - I'm looking forward to seeing that.  Still, it'll be tough to go faster than an Albacore...

Recorded 13.9 knots sailing 1266 off Ayr on the West Coast of Scotland in February 2005.

H

Some Tasar people will know me, others may only know my name from the trophies. Having saild Tasar in any wind up to silly conditions in the late 1980's, would say the fastest (myself and Louise Harnet) we ever sailed was in about 35 knot winds off Whitstable, unable to go to windward as the rig's resistance was to great. We therefore reached and ran and would say we achieved something in the top teens. However, over that winter/spring training, we lost several topmasts over the front and side whilst upright plus a few other things on 2167 Dancing Brave, but we learnt where the Tasar's upper limits were and had several years dominating the class just on the minimum weight limit. Always remember Peter White's face, when he was sailing his new Parker 505 3 sail reaching in a force 5 with this Tasar sitting on his quarter wave for the long reach in a big pursuit race. Thrashed many but alas only scraped the podium.

Great boat and when the mast/boom goes carbon, will be even better. Turned up in AUS 2 years ago for a pursuit and ended up scratch helm in a Tiger NS14. Great boat and in the right hands could win some of the UK puruist events but like the B14 etc suffer in traffic as though fast, have small rigs compared to some less efficent European designs.

Hi Barnsie,

I think Cirrus will displaying a prototype of what is effectively a modern take on a Tasar at the Dinghy show. It is based on a modern NS14, but is still in development at the moment.  I'm sure Mike would love to have your input during the development phase.

Sounds like the Flight 4.3 from Andrew Landenberger in Germany a NS14 with highly developed big wing mast rig.

I think it is a set of Landenberger sails that Cirrus are using on their test boat.  Knowing the great job Cirrus have done on the Blaze, coupled with Landy's excellent sails (his sailing CV speaks for itself) I'd expect this to be a fantastic boat, with a broad appeal. Really looking forward to seeing it at the show.

Anyway, back on topic, I produced a simple copy of the VPP that Bethwaite talks about in HPS2 and can get a Tasar to speeds of 16.2kts in 23kts winds on course of 110 degrees.
