I was at QMSC at the weekend to find 3 metres or so of water drained out, but i have heard Datchet is empty, how empty is empty?

Anyone know when they are putting the plugs back in and turning the taps on?

Grafham is pretty low too.  We just haven't had enough rain this 'summer', especially here in East Angular.  I think if they turn the taps on only dust will come out....

I joined Datchet for a winter season a while back but it was such a long trek to the water and the bank then was so steep as to make launching very tricky (if you were alone and let go of your trolley it would slide away very quickly), so it was hardly worth trying to sail.
the same, but different...

We've had a shortage of foreshore space most of the year
with high water levels at Kielder.....

Apparently at datchet if they empty it below the first levelled out section, the walls will collapse anyway, so i cant imagine its that empty, i remember a few years ago them having to do emergency structural work on the walls during a water shortage in order to enable them to empty it further. Have you checked the honda webcam? That usually gives it away.

I doubt that: I've sailed there with islands in the middle...

As an X fast handicap captain at Datchet I can support Jim's view that the
walls will not cave in when the waters low. I have sailed when there have
been islands too. In fact when the water drops below the first level it makes
launching and recovery a lot easier as you can drive down to the second
shelf. When it is in between it is a right royal pain. Best to use the ramps on
either side.

and I can't see Datchet on the Honda webcam

if people can can they post a picture.

Talking of QMSc, there is talk of digging out the middle, but it will have to be replaced due to the way the resevoir works. I did get told why if you really want to know.

if they did out the middle will the use it to build a proper slip way?  The current arrangement was a nightmare at the RS inlands there a few weeks ago trying to launch of a leeshore when you couldn;t touch the bottom but your rudder was still cracking into the concrete wall.
