But I am sure Grumps would still be OK if he had his lifting rudder

One of our calmer days. Dr *'Death' launches his laser, Charles who's seventy
something launches into an average Hythe shore break.

Charles a retired surgeon would be an ideal candidate for a boat like the D1,
but then they don't think of anyone other than lake dwellers these days in
'fixed everything' skiffy world..

I shall now search for more launches into shore dumps

*Nicknamed for his high collision rate during races..

I guess so but of course you can always get out the other side.

I wonder what proportion of sailing clubs have the challenge of a shore dump?

We all know Grumps is cursed ... the only other place I have ever really encountered the problem is Eastbourne & Felpham ...

Hastings, Bexhill, Newhaven and Seaford, Bognor to name a few that came
to mind within two seconds..

Lancing? Whatever happened to BNS?

Downs on a bad day (wind from the East)

Worthing.

Good shot from the same series.

Can see why Weymouth Speed course is windier one end than the other now.

Illuminating.

It is a challenge sometimes, but I can't remember being grounded this year.

If enough people help out it's not usually a problem. The hairiest launch I've done was at Lancing but with an excellent team on the beach it all went well. Shingle washed into the daggerboard slot or rudder stock can screw things up though

Sidmouth has a very interesting shore dump even under the breakwater. Then once you have managed to get on shore it take 6-8 people to get you up the beach.

There used to be a superb sequence of a Topper being launched and recovered there.

Launch procedure was:

1) Find 6 volunteers

2) Get helm in boat

3) Volunteers pick boat up and run down the beach and into the water, trowing boat forward as the last of them gets their feet wet.

Recovery procedure

1) Hope your volunteers are still around

2) Sail directly towards them

3) at the last possible moment drag the board and pull up the rudder

4) Hope the volunteers have caught you, as they do they should run up the beach
