I think that Mike Golding wins this one outright now, a day in the lead, and BANG, all over, gutted for him.

sounds like secondary damage from the crash. Would have been very difficult to detect. I'd be amazed if he gets back out (he's got about a week to do so).

if he's stuck a hole in the side of that boat and caused them to lose the rig, plus whatever sails where attached at the time, I hope his insurance premiums are up-to-date!

Not so really. He just came in second last yr. Before that his keel broke. Mike Golding is right in there to get that badge too as his keel broke during a solo race and his mast broke saving Alex. What is scary is Mike could not get the mast fixed and had to drop out. I am really disapointed at these latest setbacks for him.Hopefully he can get his mast fixed .Am also suspicious the watch fell asleep. He must be miserable.Gives me some gratitude that Im not wearing his shoes.

Blimey, talk about being 'rammed'

potentially taking Hugo Boss out of the Vendee Globe.

Add to that knocking your front off in the RTIR, plus retiring from the Velux (after the mid-ocean rescue) and Alex has to be the unluckiest man in racing...
