Well as we're selling the 420 and im sailing the Laser my dad wants to get a 2 person hiking boat. As he'd be sailing it with me (in handicap races as we dont actually have too many 2 person classes at my club) we'd weigh about 125kgsish. Im not too sure what we could actually get but basically:

  • Pretty fast i.e faster than a 420
  • Good on handicap
  • something thats good on the tide and the lake
  • No trapeze because of very restricted sailing area

Also a kite wouldnt be a problem either symetric or assymetric wouldnt be a problem.

Sorry for another one of these posts  ill try to make it the last.

RS400 immediately springs to mind.. Although never sailed one. Think you might be light for it..

Apparantly the new larks are really nice, quicker than a 420 but not by much.

I would say the 200.

PY is 1058 or so (off top of my head) and the weight ratio is about right.

On West Kirby you may be fine with the boat and will no doubt have enough water to hoist the kite.

After selling the Laser and 420 you will probably be able to get a good boat second hand too.

How much is 125 kgs in stone? GP14 would be good, but not knowing the weight, i know it needs about 25 stone in a howler but can be sailed with 18...

You could get a good single bottomed twelve for less than 3000...

In fact- here's are some good double bottomed ones....
3415 Wylde Thing Wild Front Ear Double Bottomed Hampshire £1900
3465 Crouching Tiger Feeling Foolish Double Bottomed Cambridgeshire £2800

Don't let the fact that it's got no spinnaker put you off- it's can still be a handful! Also good for restricted sailing area....

Might be pushing it in a GP in heavy weather although it's doable.  Firefly? That's the other obvious one that isn't a modern fancy class, bit slower than a 12 probably but lovely boat.
