I recommend lessons for windsurfing. It's a long learning curve and lots are ging for kitesurfing instead as it's quicker to learn. Don't buy a small board untill you are ready. It's like putting a non sailer on a skiff to learn. you will just get disheatened. Get a high volume board and learn to sail the board first. Then progress to harness and footstraps. Ones able to do this you can then think about a smaller board for jumping etc. |

Hi Alex D - you sound perfect for pretty much any of those boats mentioned. If I were you though I'd go for a musto skiff and have the added excitement of an assymettric.
Funny you're doing it that way round - I'm just looking to get into windsurfing. I'm 5ft7, 9 stone and want a board I can blast and pull tricks on.....any suggestions?? |

Why are you changing from windsurfing? What you get sort of depends on why you want to sail?. Frinstance .. I switched from board to boat cause a) the kids wanted to play, b) there was rarely enough wind for boards to be fun, c) when it's not board planing weather you have somewhere to sit down, d) boats seemed to like beating back up the lake better. .. but even with the fastest highest performance dinghies. you don't ever get the feeling of raw speed and acceleration that a planing board provides... a single handed trap boat comes close though, if that's what you want. |

I think as you're a windsurfer, a 600 would suit you more than a contender. Lighter boat and monster fully battoned main would no doubt suit you better.

I'd go for a contender as they are a little more accessable for the relative beginer, though I am bisaed

id definately go for a 600. I loved sailing mine, alos they are bulletproof, and easy&quick to rig. you may spent a while swimming, but with summer coming, its the perfect time. If i had the money, id get another without a seconds thought. if youve got the money, you could also consider a RS700 or musto skiff, but these are more pricey! good luck...
