As Velocitek have stepped up to sponsor the Musto Skiff Worlds I thought I had better test a unit.

I used it at the recent Rutland Open and it was great on board but the analysis of the data post race and the facilty to replay the race is great.

Just imagine what this would look like if all the boats had the unit and uploaded their data to a website (perhaps Y&Y.com) - on Monday morning you could review the race; see where the leaders went; where the wind bends are; who got the gusts and shot of downwind etc etc.

At the worlds we will run some post race replays ...

Here is a link to an on-line replay. (You need Java Run Time installed, follow the instructions)

http://www.mustoskiff.com/reports-and-news/2007/replays.htm

Here is a screen shot for those who fail with the java install for what ever reason.

Rick,

This is super. I have the S10 and have been playing with the GPS action replay installed on my PC but the web based approach you demonstrate make all the difference. I am very impressed and yes, I agree, a post race review of multiple S10 tracks would be wonderful. I wonder how the wind dynamics could be incorporated in the mix. The GPS action replay software seems to cater for the wind data but how to get it in there is the question. Any thoughts?

Regards

The GPSar application is very comprehensive and I am yet to get my head around all it's capabilities; I was hoping others with more knowledge would contribute to this thread and share more thoughts.

As it says on the page this only supports IE; I know there are issues with FireFox, this is down to the GPSar Java script; sorry I can't fix that ...

Try with IE ...

Or maybe for those of us who have GPSAR installed ( cos we've already got an S10) you could just post the .gpx file, and we could then open it and run it.

You can set the wind direction on the water, and change the upwind and downwind points ( or really reset the wind line ).

You can also adjust the wind direction on the replay by twiddling the windsock, if the direction isn't right.
The MPS tracks don't agree with the wind sock wind direction - the wind should be about 0° - it's set at 20°.

Are you getting those 25kt spikes because the S10 is on the boom?
The yellow track is much spikier.

Still learning how to use the GPSar app; how do you actually set the wind direction and how is it built into the gpx traces?

The S10 was on the mast but the boat bounces quite a bit perhaps that is the cause of the spikes?

But yellow is more spiky?

The program is not that easy to understand or use to it's fullest - there's some bits i just don't get!

I think that if you save the track after adjusting the wind with the windsock, the new saved track has the new wind direction.

The original data - .vcc has all the info in text form, lat, long, timing, etc, so you can see what's going on.
