Buy the gell coat kit from laser, use tape to get a smooth finish and shape desired, then use very fine wet and dry to get finish, i have done it loads of times and you can never see the repair!

Plastic Padding gelcoat filler works wonders.

Mix it up

Stuff it in the hole

Wet 'n' dry till smooth (can use tape at the previous step to reduce sanding)

Re-wax the surface to get the shine back and job done

Tell me again where the damage has occured! Ease of repair depends on

extent of damage

quality of aspired repair

Time available.

Most Lasers are Vela Grey. Thi does not match Mag Marine Gelcoat. However, if the reapir is small it's hardly glaring. Mix and apply. Use selloape or orher to mould fille to damage. Sanding is the bugger. Best of luck!

Thanks for the advise but a very simple step by step guide please. I buy the gel kit ,add the hardener ,then what...............!!!! The damage is to the gelcoat  where the transom meets the underside (just next to the rudder fittings)

probably best getting the gelcoat from rooster or laser (phone steve at rooster, and he'l tell u what 2 do) the plastic padding stuff wont give you a perefct colour match. im assuming your laser will be vella grey?

My friendly  boat builder advises against wet and dry as it thins the gel coat around the patch.

Scrape the mend flat with a stanley knife blade apparently!

Put masking tape aroung the reapir. That way, when you wet&dry, you won't affect the surrounding gelcoat. Scraping with stanley blade is of limited use because;

     a. How many pencils have you perfectly sharpened using this method?

     b. Gelcoat chips at the first sign of trouble (stanley blade). You'll be straight back to square one.
