How much is the SC-1? There's a new device called Nauteek which has come up this summer which looks quite nice, though probably a bit more pricey. http://www.exaqua.co.uk/nauteek.php Regards, |

S 10 - They use (rechargable) AAA batteries - mine last 10 hrs of sailing use. - enough for a weekend open on one set of batteries. And having the USB connection inside means there are no leaky sockets. I've had a leak in mine- but due to a bit of sand in the seal. A flush with hot fresh water - no problems since. |

Velocitek speedos have been the standard prize for Tacticat regattas (http://www.tacticat.com). Last year sailors winning the big events received an S10. This year we've changed to the better SC-1. First SC-1s will be awarded to national champions this month ( So far we're satisfied with the gadgets, sailors receiving it haven't had any major problems using it mostly as a training tool. In Tacticat all boats have a built-in SC-1 (virtual one as virtual are the boats), it is shown with the V key. aestela Tacticat Admin

I borrowed a Velocitek at the Cerub Natoinals. Pluses... Big digits-easy to read, unlikely to lose it and I think it floats. Tuch sensitive buttons are big and work well with cold hands. Minuses Just too big for a dinghy really, not rechargeable (eats batteries!), you have to open it right up and plug a cable into the PCB to get the data off it. Oh, and a lot of them leaked...

There is the new SC-1 from Velocitek which is an excellent device in terms of existing functionality & extensibility but I think its a little too big for dinghies / skiffs with too many things going on. S10 is simple and gets the job done if all you wish for is a simple speedo & track storage with some VMG indication. Cheers

Hello, Is the Velocitek S10 still the gadget of choice? I'm thinking of a Christmas pressie (already!) - is this the speedo/GPS you would advise, or is there something else now? Thanks. |

The SI's are very open - it's a bit experimental but we are an innovative class and everyone is quite relaxed about it. If you can fiddle with your GPS functions and compete in a MPS in Garda conditions that would be quite impressive. I just use it as a speedo and to log tracks. |

It is nice to see the tacking angles upwind and interesting to see the angles downwind. near the same. good software as well. garda should be good to see if all take part with gps. will the sailing instructions have to be worded to ban some of the on water track functions of my foretrek or will they let it go? . im not going just asking as gps is growing now. As per the description on the report is was very shifty & holey. I thought I was going to lead by a huge margin 2/3rds of the way up the beat then I just hit a huge hole whilst those above lifted and had more presure. As you watch the tracks you can see speed and heading changing huge amounts. This is what makes the GPS tracking very interesting for post race analysis and adds to the report. |

NICE ONE. Good to watch, ps what happened up the first beat looking good then stopped, large wave, hole or rig ?sorry to ask Chris err got the answer now ,musto site. It looked like Guest#260 was going to come up top trumps of the pin but a wind hole seemed to swallow half the fleet that were further to leeward allowing Richard Stenhouse. sten missed that hole even pointed higher ? Good job no voice recording then Edited by Wrighty |
