At nearby submarine base a few years ago , the modplods had their ribs upgraded and almost all to a man flipped them up and over backwards when opening up throttles on leaving harbour first time .

Slightly off topic....

Doing my RYA Safety boat at the moment.  How much fun is it possible to have with a 25hp motor and a rigiflex!!

Seriously for a moment, Learning a load and loving it!

I dunno i'm tempted to blame the sailor, they're always being unreasonable and changing direction everytime the wind changes, and then some times change direction by as much as 90 degrees for no reason.

and yeah on the subject of 25hp engines, I was doing safety cover at my club for the junior week, and got dumped with the weedy rib which had a poxy small engine at the back, which isn't a problem on a lake/resevoir but is when you're doing chichester harbour.

And so i was following the junior's just as they were coming back from the windward mark, which happened to be crossing the Hayling Island regatta, so i was trying to drive this boat through a whole bunch of fast assymetric's following some 420's all the time trying to avoid boats which were going faster than me! not fun at all.

You should not have had to avoid boats going faster than you. The rules of the road state overtaking boat must keep clear. It doesn't matter that they are under sail and you are a power boat.
