The tall sides are probably going to keep on breaking as they are just too tall and the wheel does not give enough depth to the wood. Provided the trolly support is wide enough then you could cut it down so that it goes up to just above the chine. this should locate the boat well enough on the trolly. |

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

This ex-cherub guy would just bang on a good deal more wood to the current one: a piece of 2 by 2 glued and bolted on each side ought to hold up a house... Easier to give a bit more advice seeing the cradle without the boat, but that's a weird place to break because I wouldn't expect huge loads there unles its kinda resting on the gunwhales. If it is chop the side pieces off slightly so they're taking a bit less load, assuming that the main cradle is a sensible area (might not be actually from what I can see). |

looks like you will need a fiberglass job. i did mine by laying it on the boat with some clingfilm and then glassing over the top. needed bout 5 lyaers of chopped strand. then make an edge by cutting a piece of marine ply that fits roughtly over the top of your boat. then glass this on. not a hard job as it dosent need to look good |

This is a pic of the trolley for my 14 pre-breakage. The cradle has broken on both sides just where the cutaway is for the tyre. I patched it up by bolting steel rails either side but it has broken again. (note: this was not my design). Also, the bolts on the cradle are rusted to hell. I need to replace/mod the cradle on the cheap with minimal tools/skills. Replacing the trolley it is not an option since it fits the trailer and the boat was only £800 and needs a new asy. too. Wood is insufficient in this high stress area - any ideas? (I'm looking at you Cherub guys...) Edited by m_liddell |
