Have you seen how well the Brits are doing at Qindao? Its a pity that the media seem so disinterested. Mind you there was a tiny article in Saturdays Telegraph which was more interested in the drunkeness of the officials rather than the sailing. I know that sailing is dificult to cover on the tele but it is sport, and we are good at it and I bet that more people were racing boats on sunday than running and jumping or whatever athletes do when there not taking drugs!!

Agreed. I saw more news to do with Princess Annes sister / cousin / relation going horse riding than I did about sailing!

Difficult to get excited about this event. Until now wind has always appeared to be ab essential ingredient for sailing....

The lack of interest is your own fault!

These days "Britian comes out top in Olympic sailing" is no longer news, it's just normal service.

If the British Olympic squad gave up this winning business (which to be frank the rest of us are getting quite bored with as well), you may find the media more interested. Your squad needs to start losing catastrophically until, say,  2009, and living a footballers' wives lifestyle.... surely Fleet Street would get interested if B*n A*n*l*e had a nude sex romp in a nightclub, N*ck R*g*rs got involved in a brawl, and T*sh St*rg*s married an Eskimo prince. Then there's the investigation into how come the RSX (with the strength of a Star rig, the economy of a Tornado, the light-wind performance of a Radial, and the appeal of the Tempest) came to be chosen as an Olympic class.

And we Aussies will be happy to be ignored as long as we can get some medals again.

PS...interesting website when they have a non-Olympic class on the banner. All that kerfuffle to choose the RSX and its slate-grey low visibility sails mean they put some old slalom boards on the website.

Exciting stuff indeed

That is the exciting pic - someone had better get the wind machines ready for 2008

Yes, great performance by Team GBR - keep it up guys!

Loads of good photos on this website, www.thedailysail.com and the teams own web site www.skandiateamgbr.com

In terms of media though, I heard that Grandstand are covering this event this weekend - not sure when yet. Anyone else know?

All medal races now completed, 8 (eight) medals for GBR. Gold for Paul, Ben, Nick and Joe, Chris and Simon, Silver for Iain and Steve, and Helena, Annie and Lucy, Bronze for Penny, and Nic and Elliot. Nearest rivals France (2G, 3S) and USA (2G, 1B).

Further down, 5 of the other 6 boats also managed to move up the standings in the final race - a good day at the office all round!

Light variable shifty winds, sluicing tides... sounds likeHayling on a bad ay. No wonder the brits are doing well!

[looks at results] Wow, OCS in the medal race really stuffs up your series doesn't it Ms Bethwaite... Now what are the tactical implications of that I wonder?

So who's your "performance of the regatta?" - whilst I give full marks to the boys for a great job for me it's a pretty close tie between the ladies who medalled

Penny - noted for her light wind speed but not exactly too high on the ISAF rankings nor overly rated on some of the 'other websites' / print media got in a teriffic result in the radials, and no doubt has put the wind up some of her british rivals - imagine how much of a scrap the actual selections will be..with potentially anyone of 6 pulling it out the bag when it matters.

Helena, Annie, Lucy - surely a scratch crew without much time in the boat, (especially H) nor sailing together compared to some crews who are on cycle 2. Does this mean Shirley will get 'the stick' back when she's stopped playing with pampers??

Anyone know when / where these two helms last raced each other in a Nat champs??
