It was cross offshore for us at Eastbourne. The race team tucked us right up inshore to avoid the larger waves further out. It wasn't actually too windy where we raced, but it was very gusty. You can see from the clip of us starting that our sails aren't completely backing and we're still driving off the main quite a bit.
They canned the second race, there weren't too many boats out of control, but with a few breakages the rescue teams were tied up so the PRO made the call to return to shore.

Wow - that sucks - sorry! The race team actually canned the second race for us as it was starting to get a bit too much with waves breaking over the boats. I looked at a nautical chart in the club and realised that much of the area is only a few metres deep, hence the waves!

Unfortunately ours...
Plus another 800 and a 700 went to. A set of spreaders on another 800 went requiring a mast change too. A raiding party went back to HISC and 'stole' two rigs from the boat park which got both ourselves and the lads who broke their spreaders out on the water the next day. The other 800 went back to Oxford for a replacement and were back the next day too! ![]() |

We were down the water at Arun YC (Littlehampton) for our H2 Nationals and had great fun on the Friday in the surf, I can only imagine what that would be like in a twin trapeze skiff with the kite up because it was pretty scary in a singlehander! Any mast damage that day?

Nationals have just finished... not the smoothest of events for myself, but that seems to be our luck this season.
We had 47 entries, which considering there were also over 40 in Garda makes it easily the biggest year this decade for the class! The event was awesome. Eastbourne put on a really amazing show from a volunteer club and made the whole thing feel really personal. Socials were good with the bar packed every night to the early hours. The fellas getting a cracking start at 48 seconds weren't looking so good come the first gybe!! ![]() Edited by mozzy - 09 Sep 19 at 3:41pm |

Yep - the dzero is a good comparison, especially as it shows the importance of a well funded distribution and marketing function in a boats ramp up. The H2 has been organic growth, a kind way of saying no real marketing but just relied upon word of mouth and for owners to advocate to others which inevitably is slower than what RS (Aero) or devoti can do!

The D-Zeros are a couple of years further down the road from the H2 so might be an interesting comparison.

That is interesting - I was trying to work out how to measure success for the H2. We have our third Nationals coming up in September with 21 boats registered which I guess is not bad if you consider that the RS800 with all the marketing might of RS and the popularity of twin trap skiffs in early 2000 resulted in 60+boats at the third nationals! Thanks for giving me a benchmark

Mmm, but look at the sort of numbers all the trapeze classes could attract in those days compared to now.
