Hi,
We've been going around the houses a bit with what boat to buy, and are now thinking that the Hawk 20 with cabin would be ideal, BUT they are quite pricey! Are there any alternatives that people could recommend? Our criteria/situation is as follows...
The Hawk 20 cabin does seem to meet all of our criteria, but used ones seem to be very scarce and they are also expensive. What alternatives should we be considering? A friend recommended a Devon Yawl but I cannot find any info on the cabin, and am not sure about having the mizen. All advice gratefully received!! Thanks |

A Hawk 20 is no non-capsizable - I don't think such a boat exists.
Have a look at the Drascombe series: http://www.drascombe-association.org.uk/drascombes.php The Longboat is stable if you ensure the keel is always fully down, and pops back up failru easily if you are knocked over. Lots of Sailability groups use them fro that reason. But to be honest if it's knocking over conditions you wouldn't be out there anyway. |

The Hunter Medina will tick all your boxes at much less than half the price of a Hawk. Other similar boats would be the Micros (Gem) and Swift 18. Although the Hunter 19 doesn't have a lifting keel it will sail past many 30 ft cruisers and is a great dayboat with overnight and cross channel capability. Get a Europa though if going for this option as it's a much better boat than the very basic 19.
