I don't understand the underpowered comment - the rig looks towering in the video clip.
The profile of the main looks a bit odd (I thought this could be the camera angle too but the vid shows it as well) - the combination of long boom, straight leech and very mini square-top - a shorter boom with a more vertical leech would give better handling and look much more modern & racy. Maybe this is a by-product of the hull having been lengthened - it looks as though the extra length has all been added aft of the mast?
Looking damned good overall.

….Looks
astonishingly under-powered We are not trying to produce the
fastest possible boat of this size – what we are attempting is to produce a
great all-rounder that flies in a breeze, is easily handled and is still very
much more than simply competent in the
light stuff. It is aimed at a gap in
the market currently – for a modern, fast and highly rewarding 2-sail, 2 crew hiker
that can accommodate a wide crew weight range …. Icon should be a great ‘can
racer’ that suits many locations very well.. You might just have to see or sail it to appreciate. Come and see it at the Dinghy Show. Mike L. |

Mike,
Looks good - lots of mast bend considering neither the dowhhaul or kicker appear to be maxed out.
Do you have a higher res copy of the photo?

Nearly finished the first production hull ..... and a chance for a few more
to see a full set of sails. Only toestraps and 'dangle' pole to fit
now. (Peaky's one next - don't know which one at the Dinghy Show yet)

Hi,
I was going through some of my stuff earlier. I don't think I ever posted these clips before. It's not the most exciting, and the video is out if date now as almost every part of the design has changed slightly, but it still gives an idea.

I've found one also taken on Thursday with mast shown in full - it was rather breezy to play around with the main just for photos and were really trying ot find out the best sheeting positions for the jib. Maybe some sailing shots very soon. Icon is 14'8" x 6'4" and from memory the mast is just over 6.5m. Unlikely to be on the water this weekend as a couple of bits are still apparently 'in the post' !! The lines are a bit softer and more conventional than the NS and the hull form is 'stretched' even further with a very fine low drag entry.
