I have just been alerted to the direction and some recent inference on this thread.

I am responsible for lots of things, but fortunately not the postings of the highly enthusiastic, wind-up merchant, Y&Y forumites! Heaven forbid!! I would like to assure you (Luca and all) that we (RS) have not orchestrated any anti D One campaign.

Luca mentioned Nick’s comment ref speed – I haven’t looked back but I’m pretty sure he said he thought the D One would be faster overall (because that is what he thinks - and people kept asking him) – so I’m a bit mystified if this has caused a bad reaction. I really don’t think Nick’s comments were unclear, but if they could have been misconstrued, then I apologise.

I have gone on record before stating that we firmly believe there is plenty of space in the market for both the D One and the RS100 – after all the Finn and the Laser have both succeeded for years (perhaps that talks down the 100 a little – no round metal tubes – but you’ll get my drift).

Luca – I will call you to talk about all this.

We put a lot of effort into growing this sport, developing the game and we aim to live happily within it alongside sailors from other classes and manufacturers of other brands. Anyone who knows us will know that is the case.

Please be assured there is nothing underhand or negative coming from RS. We are very busy and very enthusiastic about building our own classes.

A few people here, those who haven’t been in contact with us direct, have been asking about the D-One pricing.  I have delayed this whilst we have been in negotiations with Devoti to get a better deal for the UK, bearing in mind the state of the UK Pound .

Luca would accept no compromises in the design or build quality of the D-One so as you all know it’s not a cheap boat.  Anyone who has seen a production D-One or a Devoti Finn will know where I am coming from.  Materials for the D-One alone exceed 6000 Euros and the labour involved in producing such a high quality carbon boat is 200 hours.  Having said that, our Finn experience tells us that the cost of ownership will be low, due to very long competitive life and projected high re-sale values.

I am pleased to report that Devoti have agreed to us being able to supply a number of D-Ones on a special deal as below :

Devoti-one

  • Carbon hull, built using carbon foam construction from CNC mould.
  • Carbon foam core wings, adjustable for weight equalisation when racing.
  • All fittings including control lines.
  • Lifting rudder and daggerboard.
  • 2 piece carbon elliptical mast with sealed top section, carbon boom and pole.
  • 11m² mainsail and 15m² Gennaker.
  • launching trolley

Complete and ready to sail  – £ 9250 including VAT@15% giving a saving of

£ 2000 .

We will be running a great UK series next year and have a number of possible sponsors in the pipeline to ensure that the events will be maximum fun.  The European circuit for next year is also shaping up well and we will be offering the options to get boats to selected events and also charters.

Looking forward to 2010

Rodney

Hi!

We have a great video of the first race of the D-One international regatta at Torbole. The race was won by a British sailor, Adrian Brunton.

Check it out here  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4bxN4hL1UI
